Preparing for Martyrdom (LS013)

Most of us are happy to be alive and we run with what we have, physically. A professional athlete, by contrast, has more than we have in terms of physical abilities, but he surrounds himself with an array of specialists helping him to identify areas of his untapped potential so he or she can leverage them.

That is the frame for this course – the assumption that you have more fuel for your journey than you know. It is not an exhortation to “go big or go home.” It is the avid pursuit of the resources God has already given you, to live the life God designed you to live.

It seems odd to find a big life by studying a hard death. Quite counter-intuitive.

I know that.

And I am absolutely certain that in this place of looking at martyrdom, exploring which deaths were noble and which were pathetic, and reverse engineering their lives, you will find treasures for yourself.

Absolutely certain.

This class is not for those who are still working on the healing chapter of their journey. It is for those who are already running strong and running big, who know in their spirit that there is more.

I am a builder.

To build, you need three things: raw materials, tools and skilled workmen.

Many martyrs were simply mowed down with no choice on their part. Others died noble deaths. To get to the place where you can look murderous religious zealots in the eye and calmly choose death is a remarkable feat.

I enjoy looking at their lives to see how they got from infancy to that level of spiritual walk.

Through my life-long love of biographies I have learned much about what makes a big man or woman.

I am at a stage in my life where my finest joys involve helping others become immense.
